Pentatheal preaching is a great necessity for God’s people, many of whom have never heard the sermons of any Old Testament book, let alone the Pentateal; it is also an area of great need for preachers, who tend to flee the Pentateal.
Despite the difficulties associated with him, I believe that we should preach the Pentateal for four reasons.
1. Your need
First, there is a great need to preach pentatheal in our churches to give our people a balanced diet of “all God’s counsel?”(Acts 20:27 [1]). There is no doubt that the experience of many preachers of the lack of biblical knowledge of their people attests to this. Several recent studies of various denominations have shown that while seventy-five percent of the scriptures are in the Old Testament, only twenty percent of the sermons come from the Old Testament. Our people need us to do more than just teach Old Testament bible stories to our children in Sunday school. They need us to preach these stories to them.
2. Its importance
Second, we must preach the Pentatheal because these books are the books that form the basis of the rest of the scriptures. The doctrines of God’s creation, sin, redemption, covenant, choice, and moral law are all revealed. Reformed theologian Jean-Jacques Von Allmen wrote: “A Church that leaves the Old Testament does not achieve a true encounter with Christ. “If we do not preach the Old Testament, we will not only steal the vital truth of our people, but it will also steal from them the canvas on which the Holy Ghost paints Christ in the New Testament.
3. Its nature
Third, we must preach the Pentateal because the stories it contains are exciting, fascinating and make our hearts beat. This is the backsdrop of Jesus’ drama. We preachers should ask ourselves: do our people demand more application, because they are tired of our dry doctrinal sermons?Or are they tired of us predicting apps with nothing to back them up?Am I convinced that a simple remedy is to preach about drama? That is, the drama of God’s redemptive history. As we preach from the Pentateal, God is placed at the center of the stage as the lead actor of all these stories.
4. Its substance
Fourth, we must preach the Pentatheal, because our Lord taught his disciples that he is the whole and substance of these books (Luke 24:27 [2], 44 [3]). He is the eternal Word he created in Genesis 1. It is the reality of the circumcision given to Abraham in Genesis 17 He is the Lord of the Covenant on Mount Sinai in Exodus 24 It is the rock that gave drinking water in Exodus 17 and the mana that was provided while Israel wandered in The Desert in Exodus 16. As a Dutch homily, Wilhelm Vischer, he memorably said, “Jesus Christ provides the vocal points that give meaning to the consonants of the Hebrew text. “

[2] And, beginning with Moses, addressing all the prophets, he explained to them what was about him in all the scriptures, Luke 24:27.
[3] And Jesus said to you, These are the words I said to you when I was still with you: would it matter if I did all that is written of me in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the psalms?. Luke 24:44.

The biblical Graeme Goldsworthy provides a solid foundation for preaching the entire Bible in a coherent and Christocentric way. Although gospel-centered preaching is more common, Christian pastors and preachers still face difficulties in preaching the Old Testament. The practical book offers help.
