Most pastors are aware of the tyranny of urgency. Usually, there are so many gaps that it seems impossible to slow down and spend the time needed to form a team. that is, to raise new church leaders.
However, as a pastor, there are several reasons why you should regularly discipline men who have the potential to serve as elders, whether in your church or elsewhere.
Why Pastors Should Empower Leaders
1. Biblical Commandments.
In 2 Timothy 2. 2, Paul writes, “And what have you heard of me through many witnesses who mean to faithful men who are also able to instruct others?Since 2 Timothy was written not only for Timothy, but for all of us (Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17), each pastor of a local church must train other men to be teachers in the church.
2. Pastors can better train other pastors
Men preparing for ministry will learn the best of those involved in full-time work; they will gain practical wisdom, personal sensitivities, and a deep understanding of the work they would not otherwise have.
3. The church needs it.
As a pastor, you should take the lead in training leaders, whether these leaders come to serve in their own church as elders or elsewhere. If he doesn’t make leaders, who will?
4. This evangelizes future generations
Can a pastor do missionary work for the future by forming leaders in the present?Who will run your church and evangelize your community when you leave?Raise leaders now and you will be able to proclaim the gospel not only in your community, but in the future.
