1st thesis: The theology of prosperity is worse than indulgences!VEcast – 15

In this VEcast, considering the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, Vinicius Musselman Pimentel and Tiago Santos talk about Martinho Luther, indulgences and the 95 thesis. We also talked about the up close-up Conference of faithful for Pastors and Leaders and why the Protestant theme. But the best part is when Tiago Santos shows how the theology of prosperity is worse than indulgences. Check:

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther placed at the door of the Chapel of Wittemberg 95 theses that he would like to discuss with Catholic theologians, who mainly cared for penance, indulgences and salvation by faith. The event marks the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, where the Presbyterian Church later came from, and represents a milestone and a starting point for the recovery of good doctrines.

  • Driven by love and a commitment to clarify the truth.
  • It will be discussed in Wittemberg.
  • Under the direction of the Reverend Father Martinho Luther.
  • Who follows him.
  • Those who may not be present to discuss the matter verbally with us may do so in writing.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

1st Thesis: Saying to our Lord and Master Jesus Christ: Repent? You certainly want the whole life of your believers on earth to be a continuous repentance.

2nd Thesis: And this expression cannot and should not be interpreted in the sense of the Sacrament of Penance, that is, confession and satisfaction, in charge of the priestly office.

3rd thesis: However, you do not want internal repentance to be understood; internal repentance is not even repentance when it does not bring about all kinds of changes in the flesh.

Fourth Thesis: Repentance and sadness, that is, true penance, last as long as man is dissatisfied with himself, that is, until he enters eternal life.

5th Thesis: The Pope does not want and cannot dispense other punishments, in addition to those imposed on his alvitre or according to the canons, which are papal statutes.

6th Thesis: The Pope can only forgive the debt to declare and confirm what has already been given by God; or does so in cases reserved for him. In these cases, in the event of neglect, the debt would no longer be cancelled or rescinded.

Seventh Thesis: God does not surrender the debt without subordinating it at the same time, with sincere humility, to the priest, his vicar.

Eighth Thesis: Poenitendial charges, in addition to prescribing ordinances in the way they confess and atone, are imposed only on the living and, according to the same ordinances, do not concern the dying.

Ninth Thesis: That is why the Holy Spirit does us good through the Pope, excluding from all his decrees or rights the article of death and the supreme need.

Tenth Thesis: Priests who reserve and impose poenitentias or canonical penances in purgatory for purgatory to take place proceed irrationally and erroneously.

Thesis 11: This bullet, which must transform penance and satisfaction, provided for by cannons or statutes, into penance or penance of purgatory, was sown when bishops slept.

Thesis XII: Formerly canonicae poenae, that is, the penance and satisfaction of the sinners committed were imposed, not after, but before, of acquittal, to prove the sincerity of repentance and pain.

13th Thesis: The dying satisfy everything with their death and died in canon law, thus being justly excused from their imposition.

Thesis 14: The piety or imperfect love of those on the verge of death necessarily leads to great fear; therefore, the weaker the love, the greater the fear.

15th Thesis: This fear and fear in themselves, let alone other things, are sufficient to cause the torment and horror of purgatory, for they are close to the anguish of despair.

Thesis 16: Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven seem to be as different as complete, incomplete or nearly complete, incomplete, or almost hopeless and sure.

Thesis XVII: It seems that just as in purgatory diminish the anguish and wonder of souls, in them it is also necessary to grow and increase love.

Thesis 18: It seems that it has not been proven, either by good works or by the scriptures, that the souls of purgatory are beyond the possibility of merit or growth in love.

Thesis XIX: It does not yet seem to have been proven that all the souls of purgatory are sure of their salvation and are not afraid of him, even though we are absolutely sure of it.

Thesis 20: That is why the Pope does not mean or understand in words, forgiveness of all punishments, that any torment is forgiven, but the sanctions he imposes.

21st Thesis: That is why indulgent preachers are wrong to claim that man is forgiven of all sorrows and saved by the leniency of the Pope.

Thesis 22: In fact, the Pope thinks that there is no punishment for the souls of purgatory of those who, according to the charges of the Church, should have atoned for and paid in the present life.

Thesis 23: It is true that if there is a plenary grace of punishments, it will only be granted to the most perfect, who are very few.

Thesis 24: Therefore, most people are deceived by the pompous promises of indistingcinct forgiveness, impressing the simple man with the penalties paid.

25th Thesis: Exactly the pope’s same general power over purgatory, every bishop and soul healer has it in his bishop and in his parish, either in a special way or for his particular people.

Thesis 26: The Pope does very well not to grant forgiveness to souls by virtue of the power of keys (which he has not), but with help or in the form of intercession.

Thesis 27: Human futility is preached by those who claim that when the work sounds when it falls into the box, the soul comes out of purgatory.

28th Thesis: The truth is that when the coin in the box sounds, the profit and love for money grow and increase; however, the Church’s help or intercession corresponds only to God’s will and pleasure.

29th Thesis: And who knows, if all the souls of purgatory want to be liberated, when there are those who say what happened to Saint Severino and Pascoal.

Thesis 30: No one is sure of the presumption of his repentance and his true repentance; much less certainty, you may have had to have obtained complete forgiveness for your sins.

Thesis 31: As rare as there is someone who repents and really regrets it, so rare is he who really achieves indulgence, with very few of those who are.

32nd Thesis: Those who think they will obtain the certainty of their salvation through a brief indulgence will go to hell with their hands.

Thesis 33: You have to be very careful and be careful with those who say: The leniency of the Pope is the grace or the most sublime and precious gift of God, by which man reconciles himself with God.

Thesis 34: At this point that the grace of indulgence refers only to the satisfactory judgment stipulated by men.

35th Thesis: Those who claim that those who want to free souls from purgatory or acquire brief confessions do not need to repent and mourn, are taught in an ungodly manner.

Thesis 36: Every Christian who truly repents of his sins, feels pain for having sinned, has total forgiveness of his pain and debt, forgiveness that belongs to him even without a brief indulgence.

Thesis 37: Every true Christian, living or dead, participates in all the goods of Christ and of the Church, a gift of God, even without a brief indulgence.

Thesis 38: However, forgiveness and distribution by the Pope should not be neglected, because, as I said, your forgiveness is a declaration of divine forgiveness.

39th Thesis: It is extremely difficult, even for the most learned theologians, to exalt before the people both the great richness of indulgence and, on the contrary, true sorrow and sorrow.

Thesis 40: True repentance and true repentance seek and love punishment: but the outfusion of indulgence frees sorrows and angry them, at least when there is an opportunity for it.

41st Thesis: Papal indulgence must be carefully preached so that simple man does not mistakenly think that indulgence is preferable to or better than other charities.

42nd Thesis: Christians must be taught, it is not the Pope’s thought and opinion that the acquisition of indulgence cannot be compared in any way with charity.

43rd Thesis: Christians must learn to do better the one who gives the poor or the willing to the needy than the one who buys indulgences.

44th Thesis: It is that through charity love for one’s neighbour grows and man becomes more pious; However, through indulgences, it only becomes better than safer and painless.

Thesis 45: Christians must learn that those who see their next need and yet spend money on indulgences do not acquire leniency from the Pope. but it provokes God’s wrath.

Thesis 46: Christians must learn that if they do not have enough, they retain what is necessary for the house and do not waste it in any way with indulgences.

47th thesis: Christians must learn to buy indulgences for free and without order

48th Thesis: Christians must be taught that if the Pope needs to grant more indulgences, he needs fervent prayer more than money.

49th Thesis: Christians must learn that the Leniency of the Pope is very good as long as man does not trust them; but very damaging when God’s fear is therefore lost.

50th Thesis: Christians should be taught that if the Pope were aware of the trafficking of indulgent preachers, he would prefer to see St. Peter’s Cathedral reduced to ashes than built with the skin, flesh and bones of his sheep.

51st Thesis: Christians must learn that the Pope, on his own, would prefer to distribute his money among those who are usually taken from the money forgiving preachers, selling, if necessary, St. Peter’s Cathedral itself.

52nd Thesis: An injustice is committed against the Word of God when, in the same sermon, it devotes itself as much or more time to indulgence than to the preaching of the Word of the Lord.

53rd Thesis: The enemies of Christ and the Pope are those who, by preaching indulgences, forbid the Word of God in other churches.

54th Thesis: Waiting to be saved by brief indulgences is vanity and lies, even if the commissioner of indulgences, even if the Pope himself offered his soul as collateral.

Thesis 55: The Pope’s intention can only be to celebrate indulgence, which is the smallest cause, with a bell, a pomp and a ceremony, while the Gospel, which is the essential thing, must be announced through a hundred bells, hundreds of pomp and solemnity.

56th Thesis: The treasures of the Church, from which the Pope receives and distributes indulgences, are not sufficiently mentioned or well known in the Church of Christ.

57th Thesis: That they are not temporary goods, it is obvious, because many preachers do not distribute them easily, but gather them together.

58th Thesis: The merits of Christ and the saints are not either, since they are always effective and, whatever the Pope, they work salvation for the inner man and the cross, death and hell for the outer man.

59th Thesis: Thus Loureno called the poor treasures of the Church, but in the sense that the word was used in his time.

Sixtyth Thesis: We rightly affirm, without recklessness or lightness, that these treasures are the keys of the Church, which are given to him by the merit of Christ.

61st Thesis: It is obvious that for pardon of sentences and for acquittal in some cases, the power of the Pope is only sufficient.

62nd Thesis: The true treasure of the Church is the most holy Gospel of the glory and grace of God.

Thesis 63: This treasure, however, is much despised and hated, because it makes the former the last.

64th Thesis: Meanwhile, the treasure of indulgences is wisely the most appreciated, because it makes the latter the first.

Thesis 65: For this reason, evangelical treasures were once the nets with which the rich and rich were captured.

66th Thesis: The treasures of indulgences, however, are the nets with which the riches of men are captured today.

Thesis 67: The indulgences proclaimed by their sellers as the most sublime grace are certainly considered because they bring great benefits.

Thesis 68: This destitution is, however, the most intimate grace in relation to the grace of God and the piety of the Cross.

69th Thesis: Bishops and priests are obliged to receive commissioners of apostolic indulgences with all respect.

Thesis 70: However, they have a much greater duty to keep their eyes and ears open, so that these commissioners, rather than following the orders received from the Pope, do not preach their own dreams.

71st Thesis: However, whoever rebels against the insolent and arrogant words of indulgent preachers is blessed.

72nd Thesis: Anyone who louds up against the truth of papal indulgences is excommunicated and cursed.

73rd Thesis: Just as the Pope uses justice out of excommunication to those who, at the expense of the trade in indulgences, proceed cunningly.

74th Thesis: Much more wishes to reach with disapproval and excommunication those who, under the pretext of indulgence, damage holy charity and truth with their way of acting.

Thesis 75: Consider the Leniency of the Pope so powerful that they can absolve someone of their sins, even though (impossible thing) would have dishonored the Mother of God, that means being crazy.

78th Thesis: On the contrary, we affirm that the Leniency of the Pope, nor the slightest venial sin, can nullify the guilt that he constitutes.

77th Thesis: To say that even St Peter, if he were now Pope, could not do without greater indulgence, means blaspheming against St. Peter and the Pope.

Thesis 78: On the contrary, we say that the present Pope, and all who succeeded him, have a much greater indulgence, that is, the Gospel, the virtues, the gift of healing, etc. , as 1 Corinthians 12 says.

79th Thesis: Pretending to have the cross of indulgences adorned with the pope’s weapons and placed in the church as much courage as the cross of Christ himself, is blasphemy.

80th Thesis: Bishops, priests and theologians who agree to such language before the people will be responsible for this procedure.

81st Thesis: Such preaching, which exalts the audacity and insolence of indulgence, makes it difficult for even scholars to protect the proper veneration of the Pope from the slanders and strong objections of the laity.

82a Thesis: Here is an example: why does the Pope not leave all the souls of purgatory at the same time, moved by the most holy charity and in the face of the most urgent need of souls, which would be a very good reason for this?, when in exchange for a vile money for the construction of St. Peter’s Cathedral, do you deliver countless souls, for a very insignificant reason?

Thesis 83: In addition: why do funerals and masses of the year continue to suffocate the souls of the deceased and the money received for the same purpose is not returned or donors are not allowed to re-seek benefits or claims offered in favor of the dead, visa?Is it unfair to continue praying for those who have already been saved?

84th Thesis: Again: What new piety of God and the Pope allows an wicked and an enemy to save a pious soul, pleasing God for the love of money and not to save that same pious and beloved soul from his great Do you need free and unpaid love?

85th Thesis: Again: Why are prison charges, which, in fact, have long since expired and died of disuse, again redeemed with money in the form of indulgence as if they were still very alive and in force?

Thesis 86: Again: why is the Pope, whose fortune is now more princely than that of any Creed, prefer not to build St. Peter’s Cathedral out of his own pocket rather than with the money of the poor faithful?

Thesis 87: Again: How much or how much does the Pope grant the money of indulgences to those who, through complete penance, enjoy the right to plenary indulgence?

88th Thesis: After all: How much greater could the Church receive, if the Pope, as he already does, a hundred times a day, granted each faithful a similar dispensation and participation in free indulgence?

89th Thesis: Since the Pope seeks more the salvation of souls than money, why does he revoke the brief indulgence he once granted, to which he attributed the same virtues?

Thesis 90: Rejecting these shrewd arguments of the laity with the use of force, and not with arguments of logic, means giving the Church and the Pope the mockery of enemies and dishonoring Christians.

91st Thesis: If indulgence were proclaimed according to the pope’s spirit and meaning, these fears would easily dissipate, even if they had not manifested themselves.

Thesis 92: Go out, then, with all these prophets who say to the people of Christ: Peace, peace! And there is no peace.

Thesis 93: Blessed are all the prophets who say unto the flock of Christ: Cross!Cross! And there’s no cross.

94th Thesis: Christians are urged to strive to follow their Head of Christ through suffering, death and hell.

Thesis 95: And wait longer to enter the Kingdom of Heaven through many tribulations than to be facilitated in the face of unfounded comforts.
